Molecular Music is an offshoot of the danceroom Spectroscopy project. Where in Hidden Fields we explored the possibilities of dancers interacting with the system, here we worked instead with musicians. The project was built around a collaboration with the brand-new Bristol Proms. In its first iteration in 2013 we worked with Nicola Benedetti and her trio. In 2014 we worked with the Charles Hazlewood All-Star Collective, on a performance of Terry Riley’s Rainbow in Curved air (the video above is of this performance). Over this period we evolved the system – where in 2013 we used the Kinect array used in Hidden Fields, alongside audio inputs, in 2014 we had a multi-camera HD video setup but really focused on using sound to drive the system.
